Language Therapy

Language therapy is important for children who have trouble communicating with others or have difficulty understanding others’ communication attempts. A child may need language therapy if he or she has trouble:

  • Asking for desired items

  • Following directions

  • Identifying pictures or objects when named

  • Interacting with peers and adults

Language therapy is often play-based to provide a motivating environment for learning and using new vocabulary. Your child may also be taught to name common items or identify them receptively to increase his or her vocabulary. If you’re concerned about your child’s language skills, the speech-language pathologist will complete a language evaluation to determine his or her areas of need.
