Feeding Therapy
Infant Feeding
We work with infants who have trouble bottle or breast feeding. Infant feeding problems may include:
Difficulty latching or inability to latch
Loss of liquid through the lips
Excessive drooling
Limited intake
Excessive fussing or crying during or after eating
We will complete an oral motor and feeding assessment to identify the cause of your baby’s feeding issues. Then we take the results of our assessment and your input as the expert on your baby and put together a treatment plan to ease you worries and help that sweet baby thrive.
Toddler/Child Feeding
We are trained to address a variety of feeding and swallowing needs such as picky eating, food aversion, dysphagia, and more. Picky eating and food aversions can be caused by several issues happening at the same time. There may be sensory, oral motor, behavioral, or some other combination of causes. We will work with you and your child to identify the difference between a child going through a picky eating phase and one who has a food aversion. It’s very difficult to predict whether a child will grow out of his or her picky eating habits or continue these habits into adulthood.
Feeding difficulties may include:
Difficulty gaining or maintaining weight
Transitions to age appropriate textures and consistencies
Picky eating or food aversions
Feeding tube or supplement (i.e. PediaSure) dependence
Difficult mealtime behaviors or routines
Delays in meeting feeding milestones
Trouble with textures that require more chewing (i.e. meat, vegetables)
Gagging, vomiting, or spitting out foods
The speech-language pathologist will complete an oral motor evaluation as well as a feeding assessment. We will create an appropriate treatment plan and provide home programs to encourage carryover.
